There is a chill in the air and the days are getting shorter. This is my favorite time of year. It’s the time of year when I pull out my throw blankets, refresh my candle collection, and buy a few new pairs of snuggly soft socks. My favorite way to spend those chilly days? Curled up on the couch with a good book. Though I read a wide variety of genres, during the fall is when I gravitate toward books that are either cozy and heartwarming, or dark and suspenseful. Here are five of my favorite reads to enjoy this cozy season…

My 5 Favorite Books to Cozy Up With

1. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Actually, I recommend anything by Agatha Christie for this time of year, but this is my favorite. A murder mystery that takes place on a train as it travels through London in the winter? Sign me up.

2. Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

The story of a family with magical abilities — and their struggle between embracing them or running away for them — is a perfect book to cozy up with in the autumn months.

3. When Autumn Leaves by Amy S. Foster

This is the story of Avening, a town that is filled with magic, and its resident witch, Autumn. It is more than a story about witches and magic, however. It is a tale of the everyday magical things we take for granted: friendship, community, and ourselves.

4. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The circus arrives with no warning, and just as quickly it disappears. This is one of the most captivating books I have ever read, one that I read straight through, making it perfect to curl up with on a cold day.

5. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

I read this every year. I love settling in alongside the March sisters. Their pure love for one another always fills me with the kind of warmth I’m craving this time of year.

What are some of your favorite cozy reads?
